Cameron Rycraw is a proud son of Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood and a is a board member of the Cook County Corrections Coalition (C4). With a deep personal connection to law enforcement through both passion and family legacy, Sir Cameron entered this profession with clear intent - to protect, serve, and stand for something greater than himself.
“Working in law enforcement has always been my dream career, and I have several family members who are and were in this field.”
At Cook County Jail, Cameron has served across a wide range of high-pressure environments, including:
- Division 6
- Division 9
- Division 8 RTU (Residential Treatment Unit)
Through these assignments, he has seen how policies and administrative decisions directly impact the physical and emotional well-being of staff. One experience that shaped his awareness was watching an officer be forced back to full duty despite being clearly unfit to return. That moment, and later his own experience with being denied proper light duty recognition despite having medical paperwork, pushed him to take action.
Why He Joined C4
Cameron joined the C4 Board to be part of a solution, not just a voice of frustration. He saw the power of a group of officers coming together to say: “Hey, I’m more than a body, more than a number - I’m actually a person. And the demands you’re placing on us are destroying us.” This belief, that humanity must be restored inside the institution, drives his work with the coalition.
What He Brings to the Board
Cameron brings personality, approachability, and emotional intelligence to the movement. He’s the kind of person officers feel comfortable talking to when they need a moment to vent, be heard, or feel understood. His ability to adapt to any environment, combined with his calm and grounded nature, makes him a stabilizing force on the board.
